You will need to tell them their username and password so that they might be able to participate. Username will be their student ID number and their password will be their first-name, period, then last name (john.smith).
    • c. What type of goals can I create for my students? academic, behavioral, and social goals are the three main categories. However, teachers can create a variety of goals that meet the needs of their students.
    • d. Once I create a goal for my students, what happens next? This is where the fun begins. Once you click submit and the goal has been created, an email is sent out to the parent that is associated with that particular student. Then internal messages are then sent to the student and parent as well indicating your expectation for the student. This was there is no margin of error regarding the expectation of what you expect. Once the goal has been met or not met, you can select the number of Gotcha Points from 0-4 you wish to deposit into the student’s bank account.
    • e. Can parents participate at home? Yes, parents can purchase Gotcha Points for home use. Getting students to participate with chores can certainly be a challenge. However, with Gotcha Points at home, parents will see a difference with the help they get at home.
    • f. Can my school purchase a Gotchas.com Plan for my school? Yes, since incentives are donated to Gotchas.com and your school would only be purchasing the usage of the digital platform, school funds may be used. When a school decides to partner with Gotchas.com, you will not be limited with the number of Gotcha Points you can disburse.
    • g. If my school decides to participate, how much does it cost for an individual student seat license? The cost associated with each student is just $38 for the entire school year.

Go to the APP store today and download the Gotchas APP today.
    • j. How does Gotchas.com manage to give incentives? Gotchas.com also known as K12Sale.com is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that relies on donations as well as corporate sponsorships.
    • k. We don’t believe in extrinsic rewards, now what? Great, Gotchas.com doesn’t either. Schools and organizations have been showering students with extrinsic rewards for years. It starts with the treasure box in kindergarten and flows all the way to high school graduation with a diploma. And do we need to mention all that stuff in between like grades, national honor society medals, etc. and etc.? PBIS works simply because of operant conditioning, period. A student does something positive; positive affirmation is awarded with Gotcha Points. Probably the best example that we can give of this would be Accelerated Reader. Literacy was accelerated with this program when “points” were awarded for reading books. Students would then take AR tests to demonstrate an understanding of the book that they had just completed. Points were then awarded and incentives were provided by the librarian. Accelerated Reader was ingrained in PBIS for students. Gotchas.com operates the same exact way except we focus on academic, behavior, and social goals to encourage and motivate students in all three areas while at the same time allowing parents at home to monitor their progress.
    • l. I don’t believe in PBIS, now what?Large corporations have caught on to PBIS and operant conditioning much quicker than the rest of us has for certain. Marriott Rewards and Delta Sky Miles are just a couple of several that PBIS us each and every day. They know that we have “free will” to choose any company we wish for services. They invite us in and provide incentives and then proceed to inform us that they value us and want to keep us with them and how much our relationship truly means to them. They even use terms like loyalty customers and so on. Isn’t that what we all want? To be valued and needed. Several students whom don’t feel needed at home certainly don’t feel needed at school as well.
    • m. What does the “school model” cover when I purchase seat licenses for my school or organization? When you decide to partner and build a relationship with Gotchas.com, you are entitled to the services that we provide which include but are not limited to the following:

      1. Ongoing IT infrastructure that allows teachers, students, and parents to use during the academic school year. Parents of course can use our digital platform for home-use year-round.

      2. IT help desk where users can come for technical support if needed.

      3. Our team of 57 presenters that can come and provide training to your staff; please ask for our “teacher reset”. It’s a reset that will produce teacher and student dividends.

      4. Individual teacher, student, and parent accounts.

For Schools and School Districts

  • What are Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)?

An implementation framework for maximizing the selection and use of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices along with a multi-tiered continuum that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral competence of all students.

  • What do students and educators gain in PBIS schools?

All students develop and learn social, emotional, and behavioral competence, supporting their academic engagement. All educators develop positive, predictable, and safe environments that promote strong interpersonal relationships with students through teaching, modeling, and encouragement.

  • What do students and educators experience when PBIS implemented with fidelity?

    • Reductions in major disciplinary infractions, antisocial behavior, and substance abuse
    • Reductions in aggressive behavior and improvements in emotional regulation
    • Improvements in academic engagement and achievement
    • Improvements in perceptions of organizational health and school safety
    • Reductions in teacher- and student-reported bullying behavior and victimization
    • Improvements in perceptions of school climate
    • Reductions in teacher turnover
  • How does PBIS contribute to the development of positive school climate, school safety, and student-educator relationships?

PBIS implementation involves explicitly prompting, modeling, practicing, and encouraging positive expected social skills across settings and individuals. When students are taught to effectively use relevant expected social skills for themselves and with others, school climates are described as more positive, learning environments are designated as safer, and student-educator relationships are referred to as more trusting and respectful.

  • Is PBIS the law?

Since Congress amended the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in 1997, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports has held a unique place in special education law. PBIS, referred to as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports in IDEA, is the only approach to addressing behavior that is specifically mentioned in the law.

This emphasis on using functional assessment and positive approaches to encourage good behavior remains in the current version of the law as amended in 2004. The following is the IDEA's Requirements to Use Functional Assessments and Consider PBIS:

While Congress recognized the potential of PBIS, it was hesitant to dictate any one educational approach to schools. Indeed, Congress was careful to balance the need to promote the education of children with disabilities and the right of states to govern their own educational systems.

IDEA's requirements regarding the use of functional assessments and PBIS reflect this balance. IDEA requires:

    1. The IEP team to consider the use of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports for any student whose behavior impedes his or her learning or the learning of others (20 U.S.C. §1414(d)(3)(B)(i)).
    2. A functional behavioral assessment when a child who does not have a behavior intervention plan is removed from their current placement for more than 10 school days (e.g. suspension) for behavior that turns out to be a manifestation of the child's disability (20 U.S.C. §1415(k)(1)(F)(i)).
    3. A functional behavioral assessment, when appropriate, to address any behavior that results in a long-term removal (20 U.S.C. §1415(k)(1)(D)).
    4. To examine whether federal law (IDEA) requires the IEP team to consider PBIS in response to a particular situation, or to identify other legal requirements for a situation involving the behavior or discipline of a student with a disability, we recommend you try out this online IDEA discipline provisions tool.
  • Can I spend federal funds (Title I, II, III, IV, VI) to train school staff in the implementation of PBIS as well as use these funds on any programs that might support the use of PBIS in my school or organization?

Yes, federal funds have been given the approval to spend in the area of professional development and implementation. Congress further recognized that to encourage implementation of PBIS, funds needed to be allocated to training in the use of PBIS.

Thus, IDEA provides additional support for the use of PBIS in its provisions by authorizing states to use professional development funds to "provide training in methods of . . . positive behavioral interventions and supports to improve student behavior in the classroom" (20 U.S.C. §1454(a)(3)(B)(iii)(I)).

Congress also provided for competitive grant funds that can be used to: Ensure that pre-service and in-service training, to general as well as special educators, include positive behavior interventions and supports (20 U.S.C. §1464 (a)(6)(D) and (f)(2)(A)(iv)(I)).

Develop and disseminate PBIS models for addressing conduct that impedes learning (20 U.S.C. §1464(b)(2)(H)). Provide training and joint training to the entire spectrum of school personnel in the use of whole school positive behavioral interventions and supports (20 U.S.C. §1483(1)(C and D)).

Professional development is key to proper implementation of PBIS and the improved behavioral outcomes that PBIS can foster. After all, for an IEP team to truly "consider" the use of PBIS requires knowledge of PBIS, discussion of its use, and the capacity to implement PBIS to improve outcomes and address behavior.

  • What makes Gotchas.com different from other organizations that might provide professional development in the area of PBIS?

Gotchas.com is the only company that does things for the right reasons.

First and foremost, K12 Sale Inc. (DBA Gotchas.com) is a non-profit company, and we focus on the practitioner (the teacher) before we focus on implementation. We call this our “teacher reset”.

This focuses on defining who you have working on your staff and helping them transform from “umpire” to “physician”. One of our 57 staff members who are ingrained in this discipline will focus on teacher self-reflection that will ultimately transform your staff into “physicians” instead of “umpires”.

Secondly, we are the only organization that gives your staff the tools it needs to be successful. Gotchas.com is a very robust digital platform that allows teachers and parents the ability to come together on a digital platform to truly build a true professional learning community within your organization. Teachers create academic, behavior, and social goals that students and parents receive immediately on our mobile app.

Once students have achieved their goals, Gotcha Points are then disbursed into their student account. Students can then go to our online store and purchase items. Items are then shipped to the student’s address that they designate in the checkout process.

You are just a phone call away. Allow us to start your school’s transformation. We will put your state’s representative in touch with you immediately and they will discuss your school or organization’s needs.

  • Do I have to wait until the beginning of the school year to get started?

Of course not, this is an ingrained philosophy and not just another program. Programs may run from year to year but not a philosophy that can be just merely adopted.
